Automating the ILP Setup Task: Converting User Advice about Specific Examples into General Background Knowledge
نویسندگان
چکیده
Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) provides an effective method of learning logical theories given a set of positive examples, a set of negative examples, a corpus of background knowledge, and specification of a search space (e.g., via mode definitions) from which to compose the theories. While specifying positive and negative examples is relatively straightforward, composing effective background knowledge and search-space definition requires detailed understanding of many aspects of the ILP process and limits the usability of ILP. We introduce two techniques to automate the use of ILP for a non-ILP expert. These techniques include automatic generation of background knowledge from user-supplied information in the form of a simple relevance language, used to describe important aspects of specific training examples, and an iterative-deepening-style search process.

Learning from Human Teachers: Issues and Challenges for ILP in Bootstrap Learning
Bootstrap Learning (BL) is a new machine learning paradigm that seeks to build an electronic student that can learn using natural instruction provided by a human teacher and by bootstrapping on previously learned concepts. In our setting, the teacher provides (very few) examples and some advice about the task at hand using a natural instruction interface. To address this task, we use our Induct...
متن کاملILP for Bootstrapped Learning: A Layered Approach to Automating the ILP Set-Up Problem
This paper introduces a new type of application for ILP called Bootstrapped Learning (BL). BL brings several challenges to ILP, including the need to (a) automate the “ILP setup” problem, (b) exploit the fact that a well-meaning teacher is providing pedagogically chosen examples and may be offering hints, (c) deal with small numbers of training examples and sometimes no explicit negative exampl...
متن کاملThe Construct of Interlanguage Pragmatic Learning Strategies: Investigating Preferences of High vs. Low Pragmatic Performers
Interlanguage pragmatics (ILP) has witnessed a growing body of research in the past two decades. One of the under-explored domains of L2 pragmatics is the role of learning strategies specifically tailored for the development of ILP knowledge. Therefore, this investigation aimed to determine the significant interlanguage pragmatic learning strategies (IPLS) used by high vs. low L2 pragmatic achi...
متن کاملParallel Inductive Logic Programming
The generic task of Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) is to search a predeened subspace of rst-order logic for hypotheses that in some respect explain examples and background knowledge. In this paper we consider the development of parallel implementations of ILP systems. A rst part discusses the division of the ILP-task into subtasks that can be handled concurrently by multiple processes execut...

he motivation behind multi-relational data mining is wledge discovery in relational databases containing tiple related tables. One difficulty relational data ing faces is managing intractably large hypothesis ces. We attempt to overcome this difficulty by first pling the hypothesis space. We generate a small set of otheses, uniformly sampled from the space of didate hypotheses, and evaluate thi...
